NEW ZEALANDERS IN AUSTRALIA CREDITABLE FORM DISPLAYED. SYDNEY, Maich 9. The New Zealanders showed, up well in a number of special events at the New South Wales tennis tournament to-day. The outstanding achievement was J. Gunn’s defeat of L. King, holder of the championship for hoys under 21 years, the scores being 6-4, 3-6, 8-6. Gunn, according to his team mates, played the best game of his career. N. F. Bedford and Gunn, in the men’s special doubles, beat a strong pair in Harper and H. Rice, jun., 6-4, 6-3. A. D. Brown and J. T, Mayson, who revealed their best form since their arrival, extended H. Liudon and J. Gilchrist, the latter pair winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Other results included the following : Boj's’ Singles (under 21) —I. J.
Oorieli (N.Z.) defeated It. G. Pattinson (N.Z.), 3-6, 6-1, 8-6; N. F. Bedford (N.Z.) defeated It. Frank, 6-1, 6-1. Boys’ Singles (under 19) —S. Painter (N.Z.) lost to J. Gilchrist, 1-6, 2-6. Men’s Special Singles—Bedford lost to N. Harper, 1-6, 6-1, 5-7; ’Corich lost to A. Crawford, 2-6, 3-6. Boys’ Doubles (under 19) —Pattinson and Painter defeated L. Ellerman and G. Plunkett, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Boys’ Doubles (under 15) —Painter and D. iPails beat R. Sutherland and, K. Yarrard, 6-3. Mixed Doubles (under 21) —Mayson and Miss Mac Smith v. A. Felanly and Miss It. Colbert, 6-4, 5-7, unfinished. Mixed Doubles (under 19) —Pattinson and Miss 0. Bubb v. G. Henley and Miss N. Peach, 6-1, 6-3. TOURNAMENT AT CHERTSEY. The members of the Pendarves ladies’ tennis team were entertained by the Chertsey ladies at a very successful and enjoyable tournament. The arrangements were carried out by Miss Mavis Burrows and helpers. Miss Lorna Lambie and Miss E. Burrows beat Miss M. Cameron and Miss B. Hampton in the final. For the Pendarves team, Miss L. Lambie thanked the members of the Chertsey Club for their hospitality. THE LAURISTON CLUB. A friendly tennis match was playeu at the Lauriston courts on Saturday afternoon. The captain’s team, led by C. A. Fyfe, p.layed the vice-captain’s team, led by *S. Drew. The games were started in perfect weather, but unfortunately , before the match was completed a storm made further play impossible. At the conclusion of play the scores were: Captain’s team seven sets, vice-captain’s team four sets. Details are as follow, the captain’s names mentioned first:— Women’s Singles—Miss B. Maidens lost to Miss A. Hampton, 1-6; Miss E. Letbam beat Mrs C. A. lVf e > 6-4; Miss I. Letham lost to Miss M. Letham, 2-6; Miss M. Lemon beat Mrs It. Letham, 6-4. Men’s Singles—O. A. Fyfe lost to S. Drew, 5-6; L. Wilson beat F. Hampton, 64; M. Fyfe beat J. Daley, jun., 6-0; C. Pelvin beat D. Lemon, 6-5. Women’s Doubles Misses B. Maidens and : E. Letham lost to Miss A. Hampton and Mrs Fyfe, 2-6; Misses I. Letham and M. Lemon beat Misses M. Letham and It. Letham, 64. Men’s Doubles —M. Fyfe and C. Pelvin beat J. Daley, jun., and D'. Lemon, 64.
