FUNCTIONS CEASED
THE RAILWAYS BOARD. COOPERATION WITH MINISTER PENDING LEGISLATION. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 7. The Minister of Railways (the Hon. D G. Sullivan) stated to-day that although the Railways Board will legally remain in existence until legislation providing for its abolition is passed by Parliament, it has already ceased to The Bill Avhich would have the effect of abolishing the Board and resting full control of the railways on the Minister had been prepared and it would be introduced early in the session. However, until the Bill became law everything had still to be done m the name of the Board, but members had voluntarily approached him and oftei ed their full co-operation by ceasmg to function as a Board. Mr Sullivan said that the members of the Board had met him very fairly in the matter, stating that they fully recognised that Ministerial Control ot the Railways Department Avas a definite part of tlio Government’s policy and they had no desire to place any obstacles in the Avay of that policy being carried out. In the meantime, the General Manager Avas acting as the controlling head in full consultation Avith himself as Minister.
