SAFE REMOVED.
THIEVES IN MOTOR ACCIDENT. (Per Press Association.) ROTORUA, March 6. In the early hours of this morning a large safe was removed from the garage premises of J. C. Bates, Ltd., and the police later discovered that the engineering premises of H. Langguth and Beckett’s petrol station had also been, broken into and that small sums of money had been stolen Later an overturned car, badly damaged. and bearing many bloodstains, was found near the Ngapuna bridge, about live miles from Rytorua. • There was no sign of the occupants, but investigations proved that the car bad been stolen from outside an hotel and the police believe that the car was used to take the safe to a biding place and that it was being returned when a. smash took place. A further search by the police was rewarded by the discovery of the missing safe in the scrub some distance from where the ear left the road. The safe, which did not contain any cash, had not been opened.
