THE ASHBURTON CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING LAST EVENING The Ashburton Golf Club held its annual meeting last evening, the president (Dr. G. I. Miller) presiding. The annual report stated that mterclub matches with Rakaia, Metliyen, Ellesmere, Timaru, Harewood and Richmond Hill were played. The club was represented in the Bristol Cup Competition by a team consisting of Messrs E. A. Cockroft, W. Hedges, C. J. Bonnington, R. Macgregor, J. W. Iveig and L. E. Carter, and they were successful in winning the Cup with the. lowest score yet recorded in this competition. Messrs W. Hedges and J. W. Keig also won the Foursome Handicap, played before the Cup Competition. The club was represented in the NortonFrancis Cup by Messrs W. P. Anderson, V. W. Russell, J. W. Keig and G. d’Auvergne, but they were unsuccessful. The number of entries in the MidCanterbury Tournament were limited to 72, and the congestion was very much less than the previous year. The Mid-Canterbury Senior Championship was won by Mr V. W. Russell, and tlie Junior Championship by Mr G. d’Auvergne. The club championships were won by the following:—Women’s Senior championship, Mrs J. B. Nieoll; junior, Miss E. Brown. Men’s senior championship, Mr E. A. Cockroft; intermediate, Mr P. M. Harper; junior, Mr L. A. Charles. The president’s trophy was won by Mr E. A. Cockroft; and the captain’s trophy by Mr B. Knox. The Rakaia Open Championship was Avon by Mr V. W. Russell. The services of Mr A. J. Clements Avere obtained as coach for a fortnight, and his time Avas particularly Avell booked up. The greenkeeper, Mr D. Morten, and his son, Mr G. Morten, Avere fully occupied, and the condition of the" links all through the season has been most satisfactory. The officers -elected were:—Patron, Mr D. Wood; president, Dr. G. I. Miller; vice-presidents, Messrs W. P. Anderson and W. H. Amos; captain, Mr E. A. Cockroft; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. E. Carter; committee, Messrs I. M. Hamilton. S. H. Truman, Dr. W. R. Ryburn, Messrs W. Hedges, L. C. Nash and G. d‘Auvergne; auditor, Mr H. G. Ferrier. Eight neAV members Avere elected, and six resignations were received. A vote of thanks to the retiring committee was passed.
