GUILTY OF BIGAMY.

MAN TO BE SENTENCED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 7. John Gage Lecky, aged 42, a motor mechanic, was charged in the Supreme Court with committing bigamy. He pleaded that he believed liimself to have been divorced from his legal wife,' having been assured so by his brother. Counsel said that in not making inquiries the accused acted stupidly, but not criminally. When a man went through the form of marriage with another woman he was not liable to be convicted of bigamy unless the jury were satisfied that" he did so with a guilty mind, knowing that lie was not divorced. The jury returned a verdict of guilty. Sentence was deferred.
