BOROUGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The Ashburton Borough School Committee met last evening, when the chairman (Dr. J. Connor) presided. The Headmaster (Mr H. Colquhoun) reported that the roll number was 407, compared with 400 at the beginning of 1935. Twenty-nine new pupils had been enrolled since the school re-open-ed on Monday. The Canterbury Education Board wrote that the Committee’s request for the renovation and laying of linoleum on the floor of the teachers’ room could not be regarded as an urgent necessity and the expenditure could not be authorised. It was stated that a gift of 24 books to the school library had been made by Mr Newton Jones, and a vote of thanks was accorded the donor.
