NEW FIRE STATION.

ALLENTON OFFICIAL OPENING. FIXED FOR FEBRUARY 29. The official opening of the new fire brigade station at AUenton will take place on February 29, according to a decision made at a meeting of the fire brigade committee last evening, when Mr E. C. Bathurst lire sided. A report was received from the captain of the brigade regarding IKe fire at the airport last month. The secretary! was instructed to aprply for a further grant from the Ashburton County Council for the installation of an alarm system in brigadesmen’s residences. It was also decided to ask the Council to provide water races to cover all areas in Allenton where there was no supply available for the brigade. This would include the installation of a sump at the corner of Cross and Cox Streets, the continuation of the race down Middle Hoad, and the provision of a race in Saunders’ Road.
