PERSONAL.
The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) has been obliged to again alter the itinerary of his interrupted South Island tour. He will visit Blenheim, Christchurch, Ashburton, Levels and Timaru, in that order, and should be in Ashburton at the end of next week or at the beginning of the following week. He will discuss with the municipal authorities the Hampstead drainage scheme and view the locality. Mr H. E. Herring, M.P., will leave Ashburton to-morrow evening on his return to: Wellington. Mr J. D. Martin, a director of Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Swedish Consul in New' Zealand, arrived in Ashburton this afternoon on a brief visit. Mr T. G. Hardy (Postmaster at Tuataperc, Southland), who has been spending a few days in Ashburton, left for Christchurch this afternoon. The resignation of Mr A. Prentice as a member of the vestry of St. Stephen’s Church was accepted with regret by the vestry last evening. The resignation was caused by Mr Prentice’s illhealth. The presentation of a pair of vases was made to Dr. N. E. H. FultOn, a member of the vestry of St. Stephen’s Church, at the meeting of the vestry last evening. The presentation was made by the vicar (the Ven. Archdeacon A. J. Petrie), who wished the recipient every happiness in his married life.
Advice has been received that Dr. W." Fitzgerald, Watters, a graduate of the Otago Medical School, who. has been chief house physician at the Queen Mary Hospital, London, has been appointed obstetrical house surgeon at the same hospital. He is the first New Zealander to occupy the position. Dr. Watters was house surgeon at the Ashburton Public Hospital for some time, resigning at the end of 1934.
