MAN BURIED IN SHACK.
THE PLIGHT OF THAMES. / DAMAGE THOUSANDS OF POUNDS (Per Press Association.) THAMES, February 3. On Sunday the worst flood, for many years in Thames, causing thousands, of pounds’ worth of damage, occurred between 2 and 3 o’clock in the morning, when flood waters in Karaka Greek, which flows through the centre of the town, swept the northern P % ollen Street and the Grahamstown areas. The police are advised that a miner, Mr George Webster, about 6-5, was overwhelmed at Pulioi, about 16. miles north along the coast, and buried in /his shack by a. slip. Through traffic to Auckland is blocked by a flood at Maungatawhiri. Thames Valley centres suffered heavily. Residents at the northern approach to iPaeroa, in the vicinity of the Puke Bridge over the Waihou River, were rescued from the roof tops by boats. Stock losses are severe. Tiie Hauraki_Plains appear to have escaped severe flooding. The storm abated this afternoon.
