THE SECOND TEST
ANOTHER DISASTROUS START. NEW ZEALAND EIGHT FOR ONE. THE WIOKET IN GOOD ORDER. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. It was raining and windy early this morning, and the outlook for the second test cricket match M.C.C. versus New Zealand was not promising. A decision in regard to starting was not made until 11.90% Holmes is not playing, as he is still suffering from his injured finger, and Mitchell-Innes replaced Smith, who injured an arm at practice yesterday. The teams are:— M.C.C. C. J. Lyttelton (captain), N. C. Mitchell-Innes, J. H. Parks, W. Barber, J. M. Hardstaff, J. H. Human, James Langridge, J. M. Sims, S. C. Griffith, H. D. Read and A. D. Baxter. New Zealand^. I. B. Cromb (Canterbury), captain, H. G. Vivian (Auckland), J. A. R. Blandford '(Wellington), G. L. Weir (Auckland), J. L. Kerr (Canterbury), M. W. Wallace (Auckland), A. W. Roberts (Canterbury), J. R. Lamason (Wellington), iD. A. R. Moloney (Wellington), C. S. Elmes (Otago) and E. D. Blundell (Wellington). Cromb won the toss from Lyttelton, and New Zealand is batting. Despite the rain this morning the ground and wicket are in good order. The wind is strong. Moloney and Kerr, New Zealand's opening pair, faced Read and Parks. Kerr scored two singles off Read, and then gave a catch in the slips off Parks' second ball. '3—l—2. Weir was the incomer, and the bowling was defied till noon, but with little profit. At 2 p.m. the score was 70 for three. Details are:— NEW ZEALAND. First Innings.
