Peter Mathieson, the New Zealand back-stroke champion, swimming backstroke against free-style swimmers last night, won his heat in the Victorian A-grade handicap over 200 yards in 2min 31 l-ssee, breaking -the Victorian records for 150 and 200 yards. Mathieson won the final in 2min 34 4-osec by three yards. W. Jarv'is, the New Zealand freestyle swimmer, was defeated in the heat by Martin.
