BRISTOL CUP COMPETITION. ASHBTJtITON CLIP'S POSITION. At a meeting of the South Canterbury Bowling Centre at Timaru last evening, a letter was received ironi the Ash-burton Bowling Club, in reference to the Bristol Cup, stating that it did not consider that it would be right to confine the competition to clubs of the South Canterbury Centre only. It was understood" that the donor gave the trophy for competition between the bowling clubs situated between the Rakaia and Waitaki rivers. There were other clubs in the Ashburton district, Allenton, llakaia, and Methven, which were rising clubs, and although they could not raise the eight rinks at present, might be able to do so at some future date. The Ashburton Club might also decide to re-enter the competition at any time. It was therefore considered that no alterations should be made in the conditions
which would exclude the clubs in the' Ashburton district from being able to compete fotr the trophy. It was understood that one of the difficulties was in the draw for each season's play, but this should not arise if the intentions of the Ashburton Club were ascertained before the draw was- made. The Club felt that no alteration should be made in the conditions at present. The chairman (Mr R. G. Sampson), said that the Centre had permission to alter the conditions, but so far nothing had been done. He thought that the position should remain for this season, and next year Ashburton could be communicated with early in the season to ascertain their intentions. Mr N. B. Edwards pointed out that three letters had been" sent to Ashburton, but none "had been replied to. -A motion on the lines of the chairman's suggestion was carried. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE POST-SECTION PLAY. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An exciting game between the only two rinks with two lives made the second last day of the New Zealand bowling championships the most interesting the tournament has yet produced. Rinks skipped by Anderson, of Dunedin, and R. Haworth, of Canterbury, were the only two unbeaten, and there was a huge attendance at St. Albans green to watch them meet. The Canterbury men had a lead of four at the nineteenth head, only for Anderson to clinch the game by a brilliant six, all drawn shots. Five rinks now remain in. Another interesting match yesterday was the singles clash between H. Alloo, of Owaka, and A. S. Mclnnes, of Temuka, in which Alloo managed to keep his two lives and preserve his record of being the only unbeaten singles player. Five players are still in the singles. All of the games yesterday were of interest, and the final rounds to-day, with perhaps games to-morrow, should attract big attendances to the St. Albans green, where singles, pairs and rinks games, all with players who have had exceptional success so far in the will be played. The following remain in the various events: — Rinks. Two Lives. C. Beecroft, W. Easton, J. D. Best, and W. Anderson, skip (Dunedin). One Life. J. Duncan, G. A. Wynyard, C. E. Hardley, and W. Bremner, skip (West End, Auckland). G. L. Gladding, J. Pascoe, R. Sheath, and M. Walker, skip (Auckland). W. J. Clarke, S. Kennedy, A. W. Price, and J, E. Gagliardi, skip (Edgeware). C. Elsom, J. Turpin, C. Shaw, and R. Haworth, skip (Canterbury). Pairs. A. S. Mclnnes (Temuka). R. Haworth (Canterbury). R. E. McNish (Canterbury). S. Morris (New South Wales). S. Beer (Napier). E. A. Smith (United). Singles. Two Lives. H. C. Alloo (Owaka). One Life. A. P. King (Elmwood). F. Livingstone (Onehunga). M. Walker (Auckland). C. Hardley (West End, Auckland).
