THAMES JOCKEY CLUB. LAGOON WINS CUP. (Per Press Association). THAMES, January 16. The Thames Jockey Club's annual meeting opened in overcast but fine and warm weather. There was a good attendance, and the track was in good order, though slightly soft after the rain. The chief stipendiary steward, Mr C. Goiner, instituted an inquiry into the running of Mafeking in the Trial Handicap. The explanation that owing to the late arrival of the horse he ran without plates and was slipping badly was accepted. An inquiry into the handling of Tassau in the Puriri Handicap by J." Winder was adjourned until Saturday morning. The totalisator handled £9216 10s, compared with £8632 10s on the first day last year.
