Mr E. C. Bathurst, accompanied by Mrs Bathurst, will leave on Monday for a holiday of a week at Hanmer.

A London cablegram states that Lord Hirst has been nominated president of the Federation of British Industries.

Miss Margaret R. Kennedy, of Ashburton, passed in International Law in the final LL.B. examination, results of which were announced by the University of New Zealand yesterday.

Major A. Hildreth, Assistant Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army, Auckland, who was in charge at Ashburton some years ago, will conduct the Army, services in Ashburton to-morrow.

A' long association with military bands has terminated with the retirement of Mr J. Trussell, who for 54 years has been actively engaged in band work in Wanganui. Mr Trussell joined the Wanganui Rifle Band in 1882, and attended the first military camp to be held there. He also took part in the first band contest held in the North Island, in Wellington in 1886. At the time of his retirement Mr Trussell was conductor of the band of the Ist Battalion of the Wellington West Coast Regiment, and held the rank of captain..

Mr George Buckley, having attained the age of 65, has retired from the position of bandmaster of the Auckland Municipal Band after five years' service. Mr Buckley, who was hern at Port Chalmers, was appointed conductor of the band there at the age of 19. After being conductor of other South Island bands, Mr Buckley went to Wanganui, where he established the Queen Alexandra Band, which won the 1928 and 1930 contests, and was second in the 1929_ contest. He won high honours both as a cornet soloist and as bandmaster.
