SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY. ASHBURTON iPLAYERS COMPETE. Several members of the Ashburton Croquet Club are taking part in the South Island croquet championships, which began at Timaru yesterday. Following are details of the matches in which they took part, Ashburton names being first: — Handicap Doubles. First round—Mrs H. Thompson and Mrs Revell lost to Mesdames Corbett and Harwell (6), 8-26. Second round—Mesdames Cleary and Kirk (4) lost to Mesdames Rinaldi and Robilliard (7), 15-26; Jas. Thompson and Mrs Thompson (8) beat Mesdames Patehett and Chetwin (5), 26-9 ; Mesdames McEachen and Cowan beat- Mrs Dixon and Miss Hercus, 26-23, Handicap Singles. First round—Mrs Cleary lost to G. Hart, 1-26; Mrs Cowan lost to Mrs Foxon, 24-26.
