TABLE MOUNTAIN FIRE

VALUABLE TREES DESTROYED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) CAPE TOWN, December 26. The magnificent and awesome spectacle of Table Mountain fiercely ablaze confronted people emerging from the churches on Christmas morning. The blaze began on the slopes on the city side, and swept up to the peak, whence it dislodged boulders, which rattled into the valley. Seven hundred persons are fighting the flames which swept down the northem side and at one time threatened the Prime Minister’s official residence, but this was saved by a fortuitous change of wind. Already pine belts worth £250,000 have been destroyed. The flames are 200 ft. high.
