CARROLL DEFEATS VAN KLAVERN. (United Press Association—Copyright.) SY’DNEY, December 26. An.outdoor boxing carnival with two championships and an international contest at stake was marred by steady .rain at the Sports Ground to-night. The main bout was between the Australian welter champion, Jack Carroll (10st 81b) and the Dutchman, Bep van Klavern (lOst lib) over 15 ’rounds. Carroll was awarded the decision. Klavern proved a solid opponent, but was handicapped by a cut eye from which blood continually flowed. Carroll, being fleet-footed, was better suited by the wet ring. In the light-weight championship, the title-holder, Herb Bishop (9st 81b), lost in the seventh round to Alf Blatch (9st 71b) on a technical knock-out. In the bantam-weight championship, Bobby Clements (B'st) won the title from Micky Miller (Bst Ijjlb) in a 10 round bout.
