FALL FROM OVERHEAD BRIDGE. CHILD SERIOUSLY INJURED'. GREYMOUTH, December 25. Falling about 20 feet from an overhead bridge at the Greymouth railway station to the lines below at noon today, the three-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Patrick Jones, of Christchurch, who are visiting relatives in Greymouth, received injuries to his head and an arm and suffered severe shock. He was admitted to the Grey Hospital this evening, and it is reported that his condition is serious. YOUTH DROWNED IN BREAKERS
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Harry Phillips, aged 20, of Waitoitoi, was drowned, and Miss Baker narrowly escaped a similar fate when they were knocked over by a, big breaker at Wai.-i.ti beach, a few miles north of Urenui, about 8 p.m. yesterday. Miss Baker was rescued by her brother and sufficiently recovered to return to her home after receiving medical attention. Phillips and Miss Baker were heading to the shore when they were caught by a big wave and swept off their feet. They were at once in difficulties in the undertow and Phillips was not seen again. The body had not been recovered at a. late hour last night. MAN AND WOMAN INJURED. DUNEDIN, December 25. Mr Arthur Edmundson, an engineer at the Seacliff Mental Hospital, and his wife, Mrs Isobella Edmundson, were injured in a car accident on the Dun-edin-Seacliff road on Christmas Eve. The accident occurred when Mr Edmundson tried to pass another car, but a third vehicle, approaching in the opposite direction, caused him to. pull in to avoid a collision. His car careered into a ditch and struck a. post. Both Mr Edmundson and his wife were taken to the hospital, the latter with injuries to the face, head and legs. MAN’S BODY IN RIVER. WESTPORT, December 25. The body of Charles Roger Wood, a single man aged about 53 years, was found in the Buller river this afternoon. Wood earn© in from Oranity on Friday staying at Holder’s Hotel, and booked a passage at Gibb’s Motors for Invercargill on Saturday. .As ho did not appear at the hotel on Monday, his relatives became anxious, but could hear nothing of him till the body was found in the river to-day. Wood was one© a Buller Rugby representative and was popular in athletic and mining centres. BODY FOUND IN SEA DUNEDIN, December 25. The body of Paolo Luisetti, aged 1 46, was recovered from the sea near Oamarn this afternoon by two men who saw it floating offshore. Luisetti has been in ill-health lately, and was under medical care. He had been very depressed. Luisetti went to live in Oamaru about three years ago. He had previously lived at Rangiora,
