CARE OF A HUNDRED CATS. In the pretty Dorset .village of Longham lives Britain’s busiest Countess — and she cares for more than a bundled cats. ISlie is the Countess of Hardwieke, who, single-handed, runs a “cattery,” Avhere champion Siamese are being produced. The Countess has Avon no fewer than 200 prizes at cat shoAvs. She runs a little hospital for sick cats and takes in cat “boarders.” Famous, people leave their cats in her care while they are away on holiday. “I love cats, hut once I hated them,” Lady. HardAvicke said in an intervieAV. “Every morning I rise at 6 o’clock to see to the feeding of my cats. Each has its OAvn little house, with a garden, and a tree to climb. “The menu includes fish, beef, raw or cooked, liver and rabbits. Breakfast consists of ground rice made with goat’s milk.” Since their arrival at Longham the cats have become veritable Pied Pipers. The rats put up- Avith their presence for a time and then decided to vanish! Noav that winter is approaching, the Countess is introducing electric stoves into the cattery! “Cats love warmth and I hate to think of them feeling the cold,” she said.
