NEW SOUTH WALES TOURNAMENT. NEW ZEALANDERS IMPROVE. SYDNEY, November 11. There were many surprises in the doubles matches in the New South Wales tennis championships to-day. Results:— Men’s Doubles. Turvey and Lewis beat Sproule and Donohoe, 6-1, 2-6, 8-6, 6-2. Ferguson and Ohrystai beat Bromwich and Huxley, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 8-6,. 6-3. Crawford and McGrath beat Blanchard and Tilney (U.S.), 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. Women’s Doubles. Miss D. Nicholls and Miss N. Beverley (N.Z.) beat Mrs Harper and Miss Berryman, 34>, 6-4, 12-10. Misses T. and I. Poole (N.Z.) beat Misses Tosh and Chrystal, 7-5, 6-4. Mrs Betts and l Miss Menzies beat Miss D. Miller and Miss E. Rudkin (N.Z.), 6-2, 8-6. Mixed Doubles. Turvey and Miss Hartigan beat Bromwich and Miss T. Poole, 6-0, 6-8, 6-1. All the New Zealand players showed improved form. The Poole sisters combined excellently. Miss Thelma Poole scored many points with smashes, while Miss Jrene iPoole played a steady baseline game. Miss Nicholls and Miss Beverley recovered from 0-3 in the final set against the Victorians, and played very steadily in the final stages to win the match, which was notable for long rallies. Perry scratched for all events because of his back injury. THE WILLOW BY CLUB. The Willowby Tennis Club held a Yankee tournament on its courts on Saturday. About 20 players took part. Miss Stoddart and Mr Adrian Hayman were the winners, with 17 games. Mrs Day and Mr Chapman were second with 16 games.
