Frank Tarrant’s Australian team began, the first match of its Indian tour to-day against the West India States

at Rajkot. The weather was bright and pleasant. There was an attendance of 5000, including a number of the ruling Princes of Western India and their families.

West India in the first innings made 154 (Gurtu 25, Fizahmad 25, Narsing Ran 22). Five wickets fell for 28 after luncheon. Oxenham took five wickets for 40 runs, and Mail* four for 63. Tarrant’s team in the first innings scored 197 (Wendell Bill 29, Hendry 12, Bryant 16, Allsopp 20, Mair 2, Ellis 37). Ramji took four wickets for 68, Narsirigh Rao two for 29, and Gurtu four for 77.
