OBITUARY

MRS E. KERSHAW There passed away recently at her residence, Brooklyn, Wellington, at the age of 84, Mrs Elizabeth Sarah Kershaw, widow of the late Mr Janies Kershaw, founder of Kershaw’s engineering Works, Nelson. Mrs Kershaw was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England, and in June, 1879, after a voyage of over three months in a sailing ship, arrived at Nelson, where she resided for thirtysix years. After the death of her husband, she lived for a short time in Ashburton, and from 1917 until the time of her death, had made her home in Wellington. She is survived by two sons, four daughters, and three grandchildren. The sons are —Mr C. Kershaw (Nelson), Mr R. Kershaw (Wellington), and the daughters are — Miss F. E. Kershaw (Wellington Girls’ College, and Aormer headmistress of the Ashburton High School from 1905 to 1916), Miss R. Kershaw (Brooklyn), Miss L. D. Kershaw (Auckland), and Mrs Frank Scholes (Mangaroa).

Mrs who resided in Ashburton for over three years, was a fine type of English gentlewoman, who will be remembered by a wide circle of friends for her cheerful and kindly disposition and her sincere 'Christian character. She was a great lover of music, and retained her ability as a pianist almost to the last. The funeral took place from her son’s residence in Nelson, the many beautiful floral and other tributes received showing the high esteem in which she was held.
