NEW YEAR GALA
CARNIVAL AT HAKATERE. APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES. There was a good attendance at the combined general meeting of the Hakatere Sports Club and the AshDurton Mdtor Cycle Club held last evening to make arrangements for the Carnival to be held at Hakatere, at the mouth of the Ashburton River, on New Year’s Day. Mr J. R. l>easK presided. The following committees and officers were elected:—Executive: Messrs A. Cates, F. Crum, A. Thomson, J. R. Leask, G. T. Clarke, and T. HI Farley. Side shows : Messrs S. Preddy, F. Crum, R. Chambers, R. Amos, E. Smith, and S. Childs. Secretaries: Messrs C. Hardy and W. J. Dailey. Treasurer: Mr C. Hardy. Advertising: Messrs G. T. Clarke and T. H. Farley. Sports (children): Messrs A. Thomson, F. P. Cookson, and W. J. Sparrow. Special prizes: Messrs F. Crum and B. Cairns. Refreshments: Mr J. Burrows. Hot water: Mr C. Tlionm*. Tennis tournament: Mr and Mrs T. Hanly and Mr and Mrs Milner. Highland dancing: Mr A. Cates and the secretary. Baby; snow: Mr F. Crum. Gatekeepers: Messrs G. Cates and W. Chester. Wood chopping: Mr N. Robilliard and the secretary. Entertainment committee: Messrs S. Preddy and G. T. Clarke. Motor cycle events: Sports committee of the Motor Cycle Club. It was decided to hold a dance in the evening. It was agreed to hold two classes in the baby show, and to give a first and second prize of £1 and 10s respectively in each class.
