LONDON, November. 5.
The unemployment figures show a reduction of more than 40,000 in the number of unemployed in October, compared with the preceding month. The Ministry for Labour estimates that at October 21 there were approximately 10,492,000 insured persons aged between 16 and 64 in employment in Britain. This was 14,000 more than at September 23, and 279,000 more than a year before. At the same date the number of unemployed on registers in Britain totalled 1,916,390, comprising 1,595,689 wholly unemployed, 238,866 temporarily laid off, and 81,835 normally in casual employment. This total was 42,220 less than at September 23, and 203,245 less than a year before.—British Official Wireless.
