SCOPE OF BOARD’S OPERATIONS.

LONDON, November 5. The London Passenger Transport Board, which is the direct owner and operator of London’s tube railways, omnibuses and tramways, and is identified with the suburban traffic of the four main railway groups by pooling arrangements, reports that in the year ended June 30, the number of passengers dealt with within the pooling scheme totalled 4,129,000. This represents 435 journeys a year for each person in the area served. The population of the area is estimated at 9,500,000. In the previous year th ©number of journeys a head was 417. Of the 3,582,000,000 carried on the Transport Board’s own system, 59 per cent, travelled by omnibus and coach, 28 -per cent, on tramcars, 12 per cent, on the railways, and 1 per cent, by trolley-bus. The pooled passenger receopts for the year totalled £39,718,000, and the board’s own sliare whs £28,823,000.
