MID-CANTERBURY CONTEST.
MR WOODS’ FIRST MEETING.
ADDRESS AT D UNSAND EL. The Democrat candidate for MidCanterbury (Mr W. H. "Woods) opened his campaign last evening, when he addressed a meeting at Dunsandel. There was an attendance of about 120, and Mr J. H. Skinner presided.
Mr Woods was given a very attentive hearing, and there were no interjections. The main points he dealt with were the Government’s method of dealing with unemployment, the unemployment figures, taxation, exchange and government by boards and commissions instead of by Parliament.
At the close of his address, Mr Woods answered a number of questions, and was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion -of Mr R. J ■ Riches.
MR HERRING AT METHVEN. Mr H. E. Herring, the Labour candidate, addressed a meeting -at the Methven Town Hall last evening. There was an attendance of about 400, and Mr S. J. Wilson presided. The candidate’s exposition of the most important points in the Labour Party’s policy was listened to attentively. !H!e dealt with monetary reform and guaranteed prices, and spoke for two hours. He answered several questions at Hie close of his address.
A vote of confidence in the candidate and the Labour Party was carried on the motion of Messrs ;S. McDonald and C. Petrie. There was only one dissentient. .
A SUGGESTION DENIED.
LABOUR AND SAVINGS
WHANGAREI, This Day
Mr W. Nash (Chairman of the Labour Party), addressed a large meetring last evening and received a vote of thanks and confidence, there being one dissentient.
Referring to an advertisement vn that day’s press suggesting that if Labour were returned to power the Post Office Savings Bank depositors would be ruined, as in New teouvn Wales, Mr Nash declared that if the Government leaders regarded Mr Savage and himself as capable of such conduct they should not have invn;ecl them to discuss confidential communications from the British Government in connection with sanctions.” It is the meanest and most despicaole method'ever employed to mislead the electors,” declared Mr Nash.
MR W. D. LYSNAR’S HOPES.
FORMATION OF NEW PARTY. GISBORNE, This Day. Stating that he was looking wr a Kw party to govern the Dominion, r W. D. Lysnar, independent candidate for the Gisborne seat, opened
his campaign last evennng with the declaration that he was dissatisfied with the present Government, and unable to agree completely, either with Labour or with the Democrat policies. He was standing therefore as an unpledged independent, and hoped to see sufficient independents returned to form a new party. At the conclusion of a spirited address the candidate was accorded a vote of thanks from an audience or about 500, which accorded him a patient hearing.

NOMINATIONS NEXT TUESDAY
WELLINGTON, November 4.
Writs for all electorates for the General Election, to be held on November 27, were issued to-day by the Clerk of Writs (Mr J. W. Heenau). The supplementary rolls closed this evening at 6 o’clock. Nominations close at noon on Tuesday, November 12. An extraordinary “Gazette” issued to-night announces that the GovernorGeneral lias issued "a. proclamation dissolving the General) Assembly from November 1.
A supplementary “Gazette” summons Parliament to meet on .February 6.

DOMINION PRODUCE. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated November 2 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Tallow—Spot market quiet, values unchanged. Eggs—Market quiet. English are scare; prices have advanced. Imported slightly easier. Quotations: English, national pack 18s Gd to 24s Gd, ordinary pack 19s 6d to 21s 6d ; Danish 13s 6d to 15s Gd, Australian 11s to 12s Gel. Peas—Maples: Market very quiet. New Zealand, on sample afloat, sold at 52s Gd; No. 1 for October-December shipment 53s 9d at close. Sellers offer for November shipments 535. A grade Tasmanian afloat sold at 545. New crop Tasmanian for February-March shipment offered 50s. New Zealand for March-April shipment 495; buyers ideas 2's less. Blues: Poor demand. A grade Tasmanian for November-De-cember shipment sold at £lO 10 s *
