GENERAL ELECTIONS

mid-canterbury contest. MR J. CARR’S CAMPAIGN. In continuation of his election campaign as Government candidaxe,- Mr James Carr on Saturday evening addressed two meetings. The first, at Wmchmore, was well attended and the speaker was given an attentive hearing. At the conclusion he was accorded a hearty vote oi thanks on the motion of Messrs W. R Hammond and B. Evans. Mr H. Hairison was in the chair. At Lauriston the meeting likewise was well attended, a large portion of the audience comprising women. At both meetings the candidate dealt at length with the policies of the various parties and comparisons were drawn with that of the National Party. He appealed to the electors to study thoroughly all the planks of the parties and he was confident that judgment would be given unhesitatingly in favour of the National Party as the only possible solution to New Zealand s problems. The conscientious effort of the Government in the past, and the success attendant upon it, placed it, and it only, in a position to bring down legislation to meet the demands of the day. The other parties policies were merely theoretical. On tue motion of Mr H. J. Crothers, seconded by Mr A. Goodwin, Mr Carr »was thanked for his address. This was carried unanimously. Mr C. Fyfe was in the chair.
