NEW ZEALAND WOMEN’S TEAM. DEFEATED) IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, November 2. The tennis match between New South Wales and the touring New Zealand women’s team was continued in very hot, sultry weather. Results: Singles. Miss A. G. Menzies (N.S.W.) beat Miss E. Rudkin (N.Z. 6-2, 6-0. Miss T. Coyne (N.S.W.) beat Miss D. Nicholls (N.Z.) 6-0, 6-1. . , Miss A. Hattersley (N.S.W.) beat Miss D. Miller (N.Z.) 6-3, 6-2. Doubles. Misses Coyne and Vickery (N.S.W. beat Misses Nicholls and Rudkin (N.Z.) 6-3, 6-1. Misses Hattersley and belwyn (N.SAV.) beat Misses T. and I. Poole (N.Z.) 6-3, 6-1. , . 10 New South Wales thus won by 12 rubbers, 26 sets, 123 games, to one set, 63 ’games. OVERSEAS PLAYERS AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, Nov. 3. A large gathering which attended the Stanley Street tennis courts on Saturday afternoon gave a most enthusiastic welcome to three well-known overseas players who appeared in exhibition matches against Aucklanders. The visitors were N. E. Brookes, manager of the Australian Davis Cup team, and former champion of the world, F. J. Perry, the present holder of the world’s title, and Miss Joan Haitigan, a former Australian and New Zealand champion. A particularly fine reception was ’‘accorded the veteran player, Brookes. New Zealanders remember that he and the late Anthony Wilding, of Christchurch, were responsible for bringing the Davis Cup to Australia and New Zealand, or, as the combined team was then called, to Australasia.
