RIFLE SHOOTING.

THE WAKANUI CLUB.

Members of the Wakanui Defence Rifle Club fired a match for the shield on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were fair. Top score was 91 (net), made by C. Crawford. Scores were as follow;

ASHBURTON CLUB’S SHOOT. The Ashburton Defence Rifle dub held its opening shoot on Saturday with a match over 300 and 500 yards ranges. G. Cromie, who won the match, obtained a possible oyer 500 yards. H. Cromie was second, and F. Porter third.

ASHBURTON DEFENCE CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Ashburton Defence Rifle Club, the president (Mr F. Porter) presided. The financial statement showed that the year opened with a credit balance of £3 9s 2d, and closed with one of £9 18s lOd. The annual report stated that the last season was a successful one, in spite of losses in membership, new members having shown considerable promise. The club suffered a loss by the death of Messrs F. Clark and W. R. Tucker, foundation members. The scoring in all matches compared favourably with .that of other years, and the club competed for the Oakes and Jack shields. N. Bauerlo won the Major McKenzie gold medal for the best long-range aggregate at the championship meeting at Dunedin, where the club’s team was beaten by only two points ior the ladies’ challenge shield. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr F. Porter; deputy-pre-sident, Mr L. McNatty; secretary, Mr F. Porter; treasurer, Mr J. McElhinney; auditor, Mr A. Mitchell ; committee, Messrs 0. Cromie, H. Cromie, N. Bauerle, J. Bishop, P. Doak; match committee, Messrs Porter, McNatty, H. Cromie and G. Cromie.
