ALLEGED THEFT

SUM OF £7 12s INVOLVED.

YOUNG WOMAN REMANDED

On a charge of having stolen £7 12s in money from an Ashburton resident yesterday, a young woman appeared in the Ashburton Magistrate’s Court this afternoon .before Mr G. Kelly, J.P., and Mr R. Kerr, J.P. Accused was not represented by counsel.

Sergeant J. F, Cleary said that the money had been stolen from a house in which she had been given a temporary. home. She was a stranger in Ashburton, and nothing was known about her. Seven pounds had been returned to the police. Accused was remanded 1 till Friday to enable inquiries to be made from police headquarters at Wellington regarding any record she might have. She was granted bail, £25, on her own recognisance.
