TENNIS.

THREE CLUBS OPEN TO-DAY. Three tennis clubs in Ashburton opened their 1935-36 seasons to>-day, when the weather was favourable. The

functions had been postponed twice on account of rain.

The president (Mr F. W. Seldon) declared the Ashburton Club’s courts in the Domain open for play in the presence of a good number of members. He wished players every success in the coming months. In another part of the Domain the Te Marae Club’s courts were opened. Friendly matches were played by a number of members.

The Baptist Club held a short ceremony at the courts in Eton Street. The patron (the Rev. L. tP. Bryan), declared the season open, and extended best wishes for an enjoyable period of play. The president (Mr G. Bowman) presided, and the captain (Mr F. Strange) also spoke.
