APPLICATION OF SANCTIONS.
STATES CONCERNED OVER DEBTS PAYMENT FOR GOODS SUPPLIED. RUMANIA AND LATER AMERICA. United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.35 p.m.) LONDON, November 1. The Geneva correspondent of the United Press says that the Committee of Eighteen reached a deadlock when considering the problem of applying the boycott of Italian exports and an embargo on key products to Italy without imperiling Italy’s “frozen” credits, aggregating £6,600,000. Senor Portoseguro (Chili) pointed out that Chile, had completed her 1935 shipments of nitrates to Italy, and was now awaiting compensation in the shipment of Italian products, which an embargo would cut off.
M. Titulescu said he dare not return to Rumania without compensation for the £2,000,000 due from Italy. The committee appointed a subcommittee, composed of England, Spain, Yugoslavia, France, Rumania, and Greece, to attempt to solve the problem.
Another hitch was due to Argentina knowing that an embargo on Italian goods was impossible without Parliamentary legislation.
