SUNSHINE IN HAZY SKY After several wet, cold days, the weather improved to-day, and the sun shone in a hazy sky. The temperature was mild, and conditions out of doors were pleasant. The barometric pressure at 9 a.m. was 29.71 inches compared with 29.76 inches yesterday morning. Temperatures in the last 24 hours varied from 64.3 degrees to 43 degrees. SUNSHINE IN OCTOBER. The sun shone for 154 hours 4 minutes in Ashburton during October, compared with 172 hours 4 minutes in September. In October last year there were 169 hours of sunshine. On four days last month, October 23, 24, 25 and 31, the sun did not break through the clouds at all, and on several days only for a few minutes. TO-DAY’S FORECAST.
• (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: A moderate anticyclone extends across the Tasman Sea on to northern New Zealand. Pressure is still rather low to the east and south, and a rather intense depression is situated on the western Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —
Moderate northerly winds, later freshening. Weather fine and milder. Seas smooth to> moderate.
