Mr A. H. Allen, cf Dunedin (expresident of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand), was a passenger for the south on the express train this morning.

The Rev. E. P. Rlamires (Youth Director of the Methodist Church of New Zealand) will arrive in Ashburton this evening to conduct the anniversary services of the Baring Square Sunday School to-morrow.

Mr S. Evans, of Longbeacli, judged the Ryeland and Southdown sheep at the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show yesterday. Mr S. Andrew’, of Ashburton, was the judge of the Romney Marsh section.

A cablegram from Montreal (Canada) states that Mrs William J. Knox, sister of the late Mr John Ballanoe (cne-time Premier of New Zealand), died there yesterday, aged 85.

Mr 'G. M. Glen, who has been Ashburton representative of the Texas Oil Company for nearly three years, has been transferred on promotion to Christchurch, and will take up his new position on Monday. Mr Glen was met at noon to-day by petrol re-sellers ana garage proprietors, and was presented with a travelling rug. Making the presentation, Mr F. J. E. Smallbone spoke of the very pleasant relations that existed between Mr Glen and his clients, by whom he was held in the highest esteem. He expressed the hope that Mr Glen’s health would soon be fully restored, Mr Glen made suitable reply. He will leave Ashburton on Monday.
