Mr L., H. Steel (Post and Telegraph radio inspector at Wellington) is visiting Ashburton for the jubilee celebrations of the Methodist Church.

Miss Eileen Millichamp, who is shortly to be married, was presented with a crystal liquer set by the president (Mrs E. Ruddock) on behalf of the drama circle of the Ashburton Cavendish Club at the supper which followed the presentation of three one-act plays last evening. 1

Lady Ferguson, of Dunedin (president of the Federated Women’s Clubs qf New Zealand, and of the Otago Women’s Club), who addressed the Cavendish Club yesterday afternoon, left Ashburton for the south this morning. She intended to visit other clubs on her way to Dunedin.

Mr James Carr, of Methven, was congratulated by the chairman of the Ashburton County Council (Mr D. J. Morrow) to-day on his selection as National candidate for Mid-Canterbury at the coming General Election. On behalf of members, Mr Morrow expressed best wishes for his success.

Mr Reece Johnston, of Ashburton, has obtained terms in all subjects in examinatiojus held at Otago University recently in preparation for his final B.D.S. in May of next year. Mr Ken Good, who, like Mr Johnston, is a former pupil of the AshburtoafSHigh School, has obtained first class terms in all subjects for liis first professional B.D.S’. this month.
