ANOTHER 15 POINTS OF RAIN Another 15 points of rain were registered up to 9 o’clock this morning as a result of the showers overnight. There were scattered showers again today, when the conditions were dull and cold. The wind prevailed from the south-west.

The barometric pressure this morning was 29.76 inches, and temperatures yesterday varied from 62 degrees to 43.7 degrees.

CONDITIONS IN OCTOBER. The rainfall in Ashburton during October was 2.64 inches, compared with 2.14 inches in the same month last year and 2.69 inches (including one inch of snow) in the 1933 period. The heaviest fall in ono period of 24 hours last month was 71 points cm October 29. There were five frosts last month, compared with seven in October, 1934. The most sever© one this year was four degrees on October 16. A reading of 30.05 inches on October 4 was the highest barometric pressure, and the lowest was 29.12 inches on October 25.

Maximum, shade temperatures varied from 75.2 degrees on October 9 to 48 degrees on October 14, and inside minimum readings of the thermometer ranged from 58.7 degrees on October 2 to 29.8 degrees on October 15.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: The recent depression is passing eastward, and' an anticyclone is advancing over the Tasman Sea. Pressure is falling over south-east Australia. The forecast for the east ccast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —• Moderate to strong south-westerly winds, slowly decreasing. Weather changeable, with passing showers, but gradually improving; cold temperatures with inland frosts. Seas rough, but moderating.
