ASBESTOS SUIT
PROTECTION FOR FIREMEN. As a result of experiments by the manufacturers which involved putting men in furnaces, an improved asbestos suit which enables the wearer to pass through flame unharmed is now being supplied to British fire brigades. Fireresisting suits of this sort have been recently added! to their equipment by the lire brigades of Sheffield and Dublin, and! tests have been or are to bo •made in Edinburgh and Calcutta. The asbestos suit is also being, found valuable for use by private fire brigades in works which have oil fuel furnaces. In the event of fire a man thus protected can safely make his way through flame to cut off the fuel supply. Asbestos protective clothing which resists heat lists long been in use, hut the asbestos suit now being manufactured commercially by a firm at Slough enables the wearer to withstand for some minutes the intense heat of a fire burning all round him. The outfit includes gloves, hoots and a large helmet with mica panels through which the wearer can see.
