ROAD BOARDS.
THE MOUNT HUTT DISTRICT. At the monthly meeting of the Mount Hutt Road Board, the chairman (Mr A. F. Marr) presided and there were also present Messrs C. A. Campion, D. Hampton, R. J. S. Wilson and J. G. A. Ruddenklau. The clerk presented the report of the work during the last month as follows: The shingling and patching of Marrs Road had been completed and the men were now working on the Double Hill Runs Road, which work should be completed shortly. The following roads had received attention: Waimarama Road, Dolma Street, Railway Line Road to Lauriston, Soldiers’ Settlement Road, McKendry’s Road, Cairnbrae-Highbank Road and Pole ißoad. The plant had been thoroughly overhauled. An inspection of McLennan’s Bush Road had been made during the month and it had ‘ been decided to shingle 30 chains and the tender of Messrs Scoon Bros, for. the work had beep accepted. The swings, etc., in the children’s playground at the Domain had been repaired and painted. The clerk presented a balance-sheet for the half-year ended September 30 and this was considered very satisfactory.
The chairman reported that he had attended a meeting called by the local Postmaster in connection with the Children’s Health Camp Campaign. It was decided to hold a public meeting next Tuesday and permission was granted to hold a street appeal to raise funds for this scheme. The Methven Sub-Branch of the Plunket Society asked for a donation to their funds, and it was decided to make a grant of £5. The following notice of transfers were approved: From Macfarlane and Wilson to Mrs D. Wilson; from Mrs Dorsa to E. J. Blackler. Sitting as the Domain Board an invitation from the president and members of the Methven Bowling Club to be present at the opening on Saturday was accepted.
THE LONGBEACH DISTRICT. At the meeting of the Longbeacn Road Board yesterday there were present: Messrs W. J. Anderson (chairman), W. Watts, and J. FI. Grigg. The overseer reported that pipes had been put in on New Park Road, and one culvert had been eliminated, while piles had also been put in on Terrace Road.
The clerk (Mr A. Bushell) submitted a statement of the funds in sight .to the end of the financial year, and the position was considered satisfactory. The Unemployment Board forwarded information on the class of maintenance work on which the use of unemployed labour was restricted. It was reported that the position did not affect the Board, which supplemented the relief work with full-time work.
The bank pass-book showed a credit balance of £137 11s Id.
