WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW.

THE MID-CANTERBURY TOURNEY

Seventy-five entries have been received for the Mid-Canterbury women s golf tournament, which will be held on the Ashburton Golf Club’s links on Wednesday and Thursday. Competitors will lie present from all parts of North and South Canterbury. A bogey handicap will be played on Wednesday afternoon, the draw being the same a 9 for the morning round. THE ASHBURTON CLUB. A bogey match was played by members or the Ashburton Golf Club on Saturday r. a strong north-west wind. In the senior grade H. Lewis finished 4 down, J. W. Keig 5 down and T. W. R. Gudsell 6 down.

The best card in the junior grade was that cl S. J. Thomas, 2 down.

BRITISH WOMEN’S TEAM.

WIN AGAINST SOUTH ISLAND. CHRISTCHURCH, October 5. The British women’s golf team decisively beat a- South Island team at Shirley links to-day, winning all the six matches played. Conditions were not favourable to good golf, a hot north-west wind making control of the ball difficult. The visiting ladies were much better at ball control and, indeed, in all branches of the game, though most of the South Island players reproduced about their standard form. Results: —■ Foursomes. Mrs J. B. Walker and Miss J. Anderson (Britain) beat Miss J. Howell and Miss V. Fleming, 4 and 2. Mrs W. Greenlees and Miss P. Wade beat Miss B. Rutherford and Miss J. Stevenson, 5 and 3. Singles. LONDON, October 5. Mrs M. J. Garon, mainly through the strength of her short game, won the English women’s close golf championship at Birkdale, beating Miss Elsie Corlett at the thirty-eighth hole.
