GOLF MARATHON

GAME OF EIGHTY HOLES.

COMPETITION AT HAREWOOD.

(Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Two members of the Harewood Golf Club have had the Marathon match of the year. They stepped out on the links at 1 o’clock on Saturday to play a match in the fifth round of the Blank Cup competition, and it was late yesterday afternoon before they had decided the issue. The players were 0. J. McFadden, on 9 handicap, and A. L. Kay, on 14, and as it was match play on handicap Kay received four strokes —two in each half. They com? pleted the first 18 holes on Saturday afternoon, and finished all square. Still feeling fresh, they agreed to play another nine holes. They again finished all square. There was some daylight left, so the golfers agreed to settle with another nine boles. For the third time they were all square. Yesterday morning McFadden and Kay had a thoroughly enjoyable round of 18 holes. They finished all square. Another nine holes after lunch ended all square, and after a spell they started another 18 holes, and ended on the seventeenth green, after 80 holes had been played, with McFadden winner, 3 up and 1.
