THE WEATHER
VERY SULTRY WEEK-END. With the the wind blowing from the north-west, the weather in Ashburton during the week-end was sultry. The wind blew strongly at times, and the sun shone brightly in a clear sky. The sun shone this morning, but the sky was overcast this afternoon. Tlie temperature remained high. The barometric pressure at 9 o’clock this morning was 29.42 inches, and that on Saturday; 29.48 inches. Extremes of temperatures yesterday and last night were 66.1 degrees and 48 degrees, and those on Saturday were 69.5 degrees and 46 degrees.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following state-ment-regarding the weather:—
General inference: Tim last of a series of intense westerly depressions is crossing the Dominion and an anticyclone is advancing across the, Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:
Strong northwest at first but strong southerly soon setting in. Weather cold, squally and showery with snow in ranges and hail on parts of coastal areas; Seas rising.
