CONFERENCE FAILS

MINING DISPUTE AT WAIHI.

(Per Press Association.) WAIHI, October 4. The round-table conference, which .has been sitting for three days, between representatives of the Martha Goldmining Company and the local unions of workers, with the object of reaching a basis for a new agreement, was terminated yesterday afternoon without settlement. The company made the proposals final', one being an offer of full restoration of the 1931 wage level, with the same overtime conditions, but eightpence of the wages to be in the form of a daily bonus, payable fortnightly. The workers’ delegates’ demands , were restoration of the 1931 conditions, plus a bonus of sixpence a shift . so long as gold remained at or over £6 10s per ounce. The delegates for the unions declined to agree to the proposals by the company, stating that they were unable to concede any excess of the 1931 rates.
