The shortage of butter, margarine and lard continues, and the cheaper sorts of boiling meat at controlled prices are quickly snapped up. Duly uncontrolled better cuts are available, but shrunken wages put them beyond the reach of the majority. The Government has dismissed two high officials of the .Ministry of Agriculture for failure in the impossible task of making wholesale prices of meat correspond with the retail rates. Butchers explain that it is impossible to obtain carcases at sufficiently low prices to sell meat at the controlled prices.
