WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED.

THREE CARS IN COLLISION

(Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, Sept. 30

As the result of a. collision among three ears on the main south road a few hundred yards north of the Hamilton borough boundary yesterday, Miss Margaret Birss, aged 21, a nurse at the Auckland Hospital, i 9 in the Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

Miss Birss was driving a. two-seater light car from Auckland with the owner, a young man, seated beside her. As the car turned a corner it collided with another car driven by Mr W. A. Phillips (chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association). The car driven by Miss Birss carried on, striking another car, and Miss Birss was thrown heavily on to the road.

AN INFANT DROWNED.

INVERCARGILL, Sept. 30

A tragedy occurred at Cascade Creek, Eglington Valley, on Saturday afternoon. The body of a- two-year-old boy, the only child of Mr and Mrs Douglas Tyler, was found in the creek. Mr Tyler is an employee of the Public Works Department. The child apparently fell down a bank near the department's camp and was drowned.

At an inquest on Jessie Willets, a single, woman, aged 26, whose body was found with her throat cut and a bloodstained! razor besid'o it on a hill overlooking the northern portion of the town, the Coroner (Mr W. Bongard) returned a verdict of suicide while in an unbalanced state of mind.

Evidence was given that Willetts had been depressed for some months as a result of worrying oyer her health. After reading a medical book she thought she was suffering from tuberculosis, but medical opinions were definitely to the contrary.
