FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,’’Sept. 28, 1885). Flemington Gieese Factory—-It is understood that the Flemington Cheese Factory will commence operations on Monday, 12 inst. C.Y.C. —The Ashburton contingent of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry left for Christchurch on Saturday, under the command of Sergeant-Major G. F. Scott, to take part in the annual training which commenced yesterday. Drills will he held till Friday. Church Parade —Over 40 members cf the Ashburton Rifles, under the command of Captain St. G. Douglas, paraded in front of the Post Office on Sunday morning, and proceeded to the Wesleyan Church, headed by the band under Bandmaster J. Hosken. An appropriate address was delivered by the Rev. D. McNicholl. Miss Murray presided ta the organ.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” Sept. 28 1910). Cricket—The annual meeting of the Ashburton Cricket Club was held last evening, Mr C. W. Nieoll presiding. Messrs Reginald Hill, Chapman, H. Wqtson, A. C. Simmons, and M. G. C. Pasco were elected members. Officers were elected as follow: —President, Mr C. J. Harper; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Davis, John Grigg, F. Ferriman, W. R. Denshire, J; Studholme, W. Nosworthy, M.P., and F. Main waring ; committee. Messrs M. G. C. Pasco W. G. Roberts, C. W. Nieoll, H. C. Watsford, A. C. Simmons, C. Andrews, and D. McKenzie. Messrs C. W. Andrews, C. W. Nieoll and W. G. Roberts were appointed to select players for the opening day. The Domain playing ground was re-leased at £l2 for the year.
