ST. JAfIES THEATRE. *i> In “Abdul the Damned,” showing finally to-night at the St. James Theatre, Fritz Kortner, the famous Continental actor, is seen as the terrifying yet very human Sultan, Abdul Hamid 11., Emperor of Constantinople, Sovereign in Arabia, Persia and Greece, Sovereign of the Two Seas and Protector of the Sacred Cities of Mecca and Medina—The Red Sultan. John Stuart and Adrienne Ames, the two lovers, are ideally suited to their important roles. The producers lavished £130,000 on this production. The settings are notably fine and expressive of the period and the unsettled atmosphere of the Turkish regime. Critics without exception nave hailed it as an outstanding achievement ... it is head and shoulders above the average film, and patrons will appreciate it for its magmneent entertainment qualities. There ure good supporting films.
MAJESTIC THEATRE. > Laurel and Hardy will make their final Ashburton appearance in “Babes in Toyland,” at the Majestic Theatre this evening. This is Victor Herbert's adaptation of the famous stage success of the same name, and the two comedians live up to their reputation for droll characterisations. There is a good programme of short films.
