Mr W. Bryant left Ashburton this morning on his way to Waipiata, where the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee, on whicti he is the Ashburton Hospital Board representative, will meet tomorrow. i

At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Methven Trotting Club, Mr T. S. Harrison, who presided, referred to the loss sustained by Mr H. F. Nicoll in the death of his wife, and the secretary was instructed to convey the committee’s sympathy in his loss.

The retirement of Mr E. T. Norris, registrar of the University of New Zealand, as from September 30, 1936, is announced; but Mr Norris is to' be granted six months’ leave of absence from March 31. Mr Norris was second master on the staff of the Ashburton High School for four or five years from 1905. '

Mr M. N'. Dtoig, formerly manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., in Coburg (Melbourne), has been appointed manager of the Palmerston North branch. He succeeds Mr W. D. Olney, who recently underwent a serious operation, but is now convalescing at Waikanae. Mr Doig is expected to reach the Dominion soon, but until he takes up his duties in Palmerston North, Mr J. Stenhouse, of Wellington, will continue as relieving manager.
