THE WEATHER
CONDITIONS UNSETTLED The weather in Ashburton was again unsettled to-day. After a day of bright sunshine yesterday there was a very cold night, and while the sun rose into a cloudless sky this morning, there was a cold northerly wind that brought rain clouds during the forenoon. Conditions became unpleasant. The thermometer readings yesterday reached a maximum of 56.6 degrees, and in the night the minimum was'3l.2 degrees, the frost gauge registering 5 degrees of frosT. The hnrorncter showed a rise at 9 o’clock this morning, standing at 30.27 inches.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:—
General inference: An intense anticyclone has remained centred east of tiio South Island,, while at the same time a cyclone has been situated northwest of the Dominion.
The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —
Moderate to strong easterly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, and i’ll places misty or foggy, with showers or misty rain. Seas moderate, but a considerable swell.
