STAY-ORDER FARMS
SCHEME FOR DEVELOPMENT.
(Per Press Association).
DANNEVIRKE, September 20
It was contended by Mr J. Livingston (president of the southern Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union) that during stay-order periods farms would practically be at a standstill. In order to provide money for development during the stay period lie suggested that it could be obtained by the remission of rents and interest. A small committee could be appointed to confer with the parties concerned on suggested developmental work, and on the cost. Work of this nature might be subsidised by the Unemployment Fund.
If such a scheme were carried out a farm could be placed in a payable position. At the end of the stay period the rent could be paid, the mortgagee could collect his interest, and the farmer could still make a living. A remit on these lines is to be sent to the Dominion executive.
