MILK IN SCHOOLS
NATIONAL SCHEME SUPPORTED.
(Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH 1 , This Day. A recommendation to the Government that it should inaugurate a national scheme to supply free milk to school children is to, be made by the Canterbury Education Board, according to a decision made by the board at a meeting yesterday. The board had before it a circulai from the Department of Health which emphasised the importance of giving only pure milk to school children. “As the practice of supplying milk to school children is increasing, the Department of Health has advised that measures should he taken, if possible, to see that such supplies are pure and from herds in satisfactory condition/ the circular said. “The department recommends that education boards should express to committees and head teachers the importance of this matter. On application to the local medical officer of health or school medical officer arrangements can be made for any needful investigation.” On. the motion of Mr C. Benstead it was agreed that a recommendation should he made to the Government that it should inaugurate a national scheme for a free supply of milk to school children, the Government to be notified that the board would be glad to co-operate in any sciieme arranged.
